Downtown Oakland PACE Center

The CEI Downtown Oakland PACE Center is located on the ground floor of Oakland’s San Pablo Hotel, a senior residential community in the revitalized Uptown district near the Civic Center.  It opened in 1994 and primarily serves residents of Oakland, Emeryville and the City of Alameda.

Following a successful career in business and financial management positions, Don Hertzler changed gears to direct an assisted living facility and found great satisfaction in working with seniors. In 2003, he became a Center Director at CEI, where he continues his dedication to helping seniors have a better quality of life. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and California certification as an administrator of Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly.
 Dr. Kim leads the inter-disciplinary team and provides primary medical care for participants at Center for Elders' Independence Downtown Oakland PACE center.  She is a geriatrician with extensive experience in caring for frail elders living in the community.  Prior to joining CEI in 2007, Dr. Kim was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and at Boston University School of Medicine.  At these institutions, she taught students, residents, and fellows how to care for elders in the hospital, clinic, homecare, and long term care settings.  She is passionate about serving the elderly community and has focused on caring for the frailest among the underserved elderly population.  She is bilingual in English and Korean.  Dr. Kim earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and a master's degree in public health at Boston University School of Public Health.
